MEDIA CONVERTER MC2A
Turn your analog telephony device or fax machine into an IP device and take advantage of the benefits a VoIP converged network. The NEC Media Converter MC2A from NEC America, Inc. (NEC), enables you to integrate analog telephones, analog conference units, modems, and fax machines with NEC’s NEAX® 2400 IPX IP telephony system. NEC customers can now protect their investment in conventional devices while providing a migration path to IP at their own pace. The NEC Media Converter MC2A addresses the needs of the emerging VoIP-managed voice services, and local services market, by helping companies cost-effectively turn their analog devices into IP devices.
How does it work?
Analog connected devices send their conventional media (Voice/Fax data) to the NEC Media Converter MC2A. The NEC Media Converter MC2A packages the media into IP packets so they can be sent across a converged IP network. Call control signals to/from the NEC Media Converter are sent/received by the Protocol Handler Analog (PHA) card of the NEAX 2400 IPX.
In simple terms, your analog devices continue to work in the conventional manner – the only difference is the transport media. Before the integration of the NEC Media Converter MC2A, analog devices worked on their own pairs of wire. Now they work on a converged Ethernet network. There is no need to upgrade or swap out your analog devices. You can continue to use them as you would normally.
