The UNIVERGE™ PoE (CX) Solutions presents a simple and efficient means of supporting Layer 2 LAN switching while providing Power over Ethernet (PoE) for NEC IP telephony terminals or Wireless Access points utilizing either the transmit and receive pairs or the "spare pairs" from standard Ethernet cabling. This power distribution system simplifies centralized UPS backup without requiring local AC adapter UPS support. This assures business communications continuity during a commercial power outage. The name UNIVERGE CX attributes to Converged Switching (X) products – critical and key components of the overall UNIVERGE IP Architecture. They support the required features for Voice over IP, Wireless LAN and data applications with advanced QoS (Quality of Service), Power over Ethernet with IEEE 802.3af support, and security with IEEE 802.1x authentication.
UNIVERGE BF Series
BF 210/24 PoE Layer 2 Switch - The UNIVERGE BF 210/24 provides 24 x 10/100 ports with auto-sense between MDI and MDI-X modes, eliminating the need for Ethernet cross-over cables. Also, it can auto-negotiate between 10/100 Mbps half duplex or full duplex, with flow control provided for half and full duplex operation. An optional front panel slide-in module provides two ports for high speed up-links supporting 1000BASE-SX, 1000BASE-LX (GBIC), or 1000BASE-T Gigabit Ethernet interfaces.
The BF 210/24 PoE Switch actually "discovers" LAN devices requiring power from the LAN before the -48 VDC is applied to the circuit. This provides the flexibility to connect non-telephony (non-LAN-powered) devices (such as PCs) to the switch as well as IP telephones.
